Chiefs Looking To Add Another Weapon Amid Rashee Rice Legal Issues

The biggest need for the Kansas City Chiefs heading into the 2024 NFL Offseason was at wide receiver. Patrick Mahomes made it work with a pretty underwhelming group of wideouts.

They’ve done just that, as they added free agent Hollywood Brown and drafted Texas speedster Xavier Worthy with the 28th-overall pick.  Those two, plus second-year stud Rashee Rice had the makings of a great group to pair with Travis Kelce as pass-catching weapons for the Chiefs.

But, it seems likely that they’re going to be without Rashee Rice for at least some of the season, if not all of it. Off-the-field issues are piling up for the SMU alum.

Rice has been charged with multiple felonies after driving a luxury automobile at unsafe speeds and causing a multi-car crash in the Dallas area in March. And, he’s being investigated for allegedly assaulting a photographer at a club on Monday.

Between the two incidents, one has to assume that Rashee Rice will get a pretty significant suspension from the league office when it’s all said and done.

So, they’re back to needing wide receiver depth.  That’s a problem they’re trying to solve, quickly.

According to Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are going to bring in former Jaguar and current free agent wide receiver Zay Jones in for a visit this week.

Jones has been a productive receiver in the past, especially in 2022. That year, he had 82 catches for 823 yards and 5 touchdowns. The East Carolina alum was a second-round pick in 2017 by the Buffalo Bills and also spent time with the Raiders.

Ultimately, this would be a smart insurance move for the Chiefs to make due to Rice’s uncertain status.
