Choctaw County is taking a unique approach to film sessions for high school football. The Chargers invited members of the community to sit with the coaching staff to review what went right and what went wrong from the last week’s game.
They are risking infiltration by secret spies!
As far as I am aware, there is nothing to stop a future high school football opponents from using this new community film session to game plan. Why wouldn’t they?
Choctaw County began the high school football season at 0-1.
Choctaw County High School is located in the small town of Ackerman, Mississippi on the east side of the state near Starkville. It functions as a combined junior/senior high school with a total enrollment of approximately 500 students in Grades 7-12.
The Chargers compete in Class 3A, Region 4 of the Mississippi High School Activities Association. The high school football team had a good amount of success in recent years. It has not finished with less than seven wins since 2016. It also won a state championship in 2024 at 14-1.
Last year was not quite as strong as the year prior. Choctaw County went 7-5 in 2025. The Chargers began the 2026 season at 0-1 with a frustrating loss to East Webster on Friday.
Spies can watch film of their future opponent with the coaching staff.
Not long after the first week of the high school football season, Choctaw County announced a new event on Tuesday nights. The ‘Charger Football Community Film Study’ will be held for one hour at the high school cafeteria.
“This season we are inviting our parents and community supporters to sit with our staff and review film from Friday nights game. Come get a detailed look at what went right and what we’ve got to work on moving forward.”
Reactions are mixed.
Some fans of the sport think this is a great way to keep parents and disgruntled or overly vocal members of the community at bay. The coaching staff can hold players accountable in front of the people who raised them.
Other fans think this serves the opposite purpose. It gives disgruntled parents a reason to voice their opinions about the program and to cast blame on other members of the team beyond their own children.
I immediately thought of a different issue. I don’t know exactly how the Choctaw County coaching staff is going to vet the members of the community who decide to show up, but if I was a coach at New Hope, Rosa Fort or any future opponent, I would make the trip to Ackerman on Tuesday to watch film. If not an active coach, than a secret representative of my program.
What is stopping spies from sneaking in the back? Maybe it doesn’t matter?
