  • Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch during the Euros over the summer.
  • Despite the scary incident, the 29-year-old remained determined to keep playing professionally.
  • Eriksen will now get that chance as he’s signed a six-month contract with Premier League club Brentford.

Christian Eriksen, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder who suffered from cardiac arrest during the 2020 Euros just seven months ago, has managed to get his career back on track as he’s signed a six-month contract with Brentford Football Club, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Eriksen, who won the Serie A title with Italian club Inter Milan last season, collapsed on the pitch during the 43rd minute of Denmark’s opening group stage match against Finland on June 12. The play was halted immediately as Eriksen was attended to by medical professionals for approximately 10 minutes. Following the use of chest compressions and defibrillation, Eriksen was resuscitated and was conscious when he was taken off the pitch.

In the months since Eriksen has obviously been working tirelessly to resume his career and those efforts have paid off. The Dane is certainly no stranger to the Premier League, as he made himself an internationally known name during a seven-year stretch with Tottenham Hotspur from 2013 to 2020.

“I am looking forward to working with Christian again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then. Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team… We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a World Class player to Brentford,” manager Thomas Frank said in a statement.

The move to the Premier League also has to do with the laws in Italy, which prevented Eriksen from competing in Serie A after being fitted with a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device. Now, with a contract signed through the end of the 2021-22 season, Eriksen has a chance to re-establish his football career in England.
