North Carolina State lost to Vanderbilt in college football because of a fumble in the end zone by CJ Bailey.


NC State football lost a game vs. Vanderbilt in heartbreaking fashion over the weekend. Quarterback CJ Bailey fumbled in the endzone while trying to run the final seconds from the clock.

It turned a three-point lead into a four-point loss. His mom seemingly trashed Wolfpack fans attacking her son after the fact.

A deleted message that appears to be linked to the account of the signal caller’s mom is circulating social media. That post suggests that Bailey should’ve transferred when he had the chance last offseason.

The Wolfpack trailed for exactly one second of action on Saturday. They jumped out to a 17-point lead in the first half before the Commodores came storming back late.

An NC State interception with one minute left to play appeared to end the game. The Wolfpack took over on offense near their own goal line leading 31-28. They needed to burn the final 60 seconds from the clock over the next four plays.

With six seconds left, the Wolfpack called a fourth down play to purposely take a safety while ticking as much time off the scoreboard as possible. It backfired miserably.

Bailey was stripped in the endzone. Vanderbilt picked up the fumble and scored a touchdown. Social media immediately attacked the passer after the fact.

At 5:37 PM on Saturday, a couple of hours after the game ended, the account appears to have posted a message reading, “CJ should’ve left when he had the chance! For more money and a better team! You’re a f— coward hiding behind a fan page to talk s— about a kid that can do something you can’t do!”

The message is no longer available online, but based on the replies to the original conversation, it looks to be real.

Bailey had a chance to transfer after a monster sophomore season in 2025. He opted to say, despite potentially having better offers.

The social media attacks have been frequent following the last-second fumble against Vanderbilt. The quarterback’s Instagram account is no longer active.

Hopefully, he is able to flush it and move forward. NC State plays App State next Saturday in Raleigh.
