Jets’ CJ Mosley Says Zach Wilson’s 2022 Was So Bad He Could’ve Been ‘Out Of The League’

Zach Wilson’s second season in the league last year was such a ubiquitous disaster that New York Jets’ star linebacker CJ Mosley believes he could’ve fallen out of the NFL.

Speaking with the New York Post about the strides that Wilson has made after being thrust back into the spotlight following Aaron Rodgers‘ torn Achilles just minutes into the 2023 season, Mosley said that the BYU product has overcome adversity to now lead the team.

“He could have been out of the league by now. There was so much stuff that could have happened, but he’s here right now, leading our team,” the Jets’ defensive captain said of Zach Wilson.

“It’s his confidence. You have to learn from you mistakes and learn from the good and the bad. Being a quarterback is hard enough. Being a quarterback for the New York Jets might add a little more to it. He came into a really tough situation with a lot of expectations. I feel like he’s been doing a really good job handling it.”

After struggling in his first two games as the starting quarterback this season, the third-year signal-caller has shown legitimate signs of growth in the weeks since.

While Wilson’s stats don’t necessarily jump off the page — completing 60% of his passes for 1,097 yards, 4 TDs, and 5 INTs — he has cut down the backbreaking mistakes that have cost his team games in the past.

Since their Week 4 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots, the Jets have gone 2-1, with one of those wins coming against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the loss being against the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that saw Wilson perhaps play better than he ever has before.

This weekend, Wilson will be tasked with something he’s rarely had to do before, and that’s quarterbacking a team that is the favorite, as the Jets are currently favored by -3 points against the New York Giants this weekend.
