Against all odds, the Cleveland Browns sit atop the AFC North with a 5-2 record as we near the midpoint of the NFL season. Perhaps even more surprising is that quarterback Deshaun Watson is back to looking like a capable NFL signal caller.

Watson went 25-for-36 for 308 yards in Cleveland’s 27-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and added one rushing touchdown.

He did, however, have an ugly interception early in the first quarter that led to a Titans touchdown that put the hosts ahead 14-0.

After the game, Watson made sure to let everyone know that the interception wasn’t his fault. Instead, he placed the blame at the feet of rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston.

Deshaun Watson Tossed Denzel Boston To The Wolves

In his postgame press conference, Watson explained what went wrong during the interception. In the process, he made it clear that it was Boston, not Watson, who made a mistake on the play.

“He came and talked to me after the play and then after the game in the locker room, he came over and told me too…he understood that he kind of put the quarterback in a bad spot,” Watson Said.

“On a slant route you can’t go underneath it and dip and try to go around, even if the guy played hard. You just got to force flat, and then just probably knock it away if he plays it well.

“It’s a teaching moment for a young receiver, and we’re not going to charge it against him. I’m not going to be pissed off about it. It happens; it is what it is. We got the W, but it’s definitely a good teaching moment.”

Here’s the thing. Watson isn’t wrong, technically speaking. Boston did allow the cornerback to get across his face on the route, which is a mistake.

But Watson still should’ve never thrown the ball, and even if he did, he probably shouldn’t toss his young teammate to the wolves in the way he did.

Things seem to be going well for the Browns these days. Hopefully Watson’s comments don’t lead to any locker room troubles that could derail that momentum.
