  • Apparently, Coach K is going to stay away from Duke basketball next season.
  • College hoops fans aren’t buying his statement at all.
  • The 75-year-old retired this past season.

There will be speculation about Mike Krzyzewski’s retirement being legitimate or not right up until Duke tips off its season later this Fall. It’s hard to picture a Duke basketball game without Coach K manning the Blue Devil’s bench, but apparently, he’s going to do his best of being hands-off in his first year of retirement.

Coach K spoke with Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports and made the claim that he won’t be attending a single Duke game at Cameron Indoor Stadium this season.

We’ll believe that when we see it.

The funniest outcome of this statement would be Coach K sticking to his word about not going to a Duke home game this season, but traveling to literally every road game. He’s a retired man now, road-tripping around the ACC and going to neutral site games sounds like a pretty solid first year of retirement.

It’s clear that Coach K wants to stay out of the first-year head coach Jon Scheyer’s way, but that’ll probably be easier said than done for the man who spent 42 years of his life at Duke.
