Heading into the NCAA Tournament, every college basketball fan knew that any single Duke game could be the last time we would see Coach K as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Unfortunately for Duke, that last game came in a Final Four loss at the hands of bitter rival North Carolina.

The whole college basketball world celebrated or mourned based on the idea that it was the last we would see of Coach K. Then Jay Williams had to go and theorize about what might cause him to change his mind.

That has led some to believe there’s a chance he could pull a Tom Brady and decide to unretire some time before next season. He was even asked about it on ESPNU Radio today.

When he was asked, Coach K shot down the idea.

It really wouldn’t make much sense for Coach K to actually come back for another season. He has already done the whole retirement tour thing, which would leave a worse taste in people’s mouths than it already did if it wasn’t actually for his last season.

He also has absolutely nothing left to prove as a college basketball coach. He has the most wins of any coach in history. He has won 5 national titles, been to 13 Final Fours, won the ACC regular season 13 times, and won the ACC Tournament 15 times.

Duke already has a replacement in place and it will be very tough for Coach K to end his career in a better way than making it to a Final Four. He should just stay retired and enjoy everything he already accomplished in his 47 year career.
