The CFL’s BC Lions have thrown a curveball into the mix by adding Colin Kaepernick to their negotiation list, according to a report from TSN’s Farhan Lalji.

Now, before you start speculating wildly, let’s clear the air on what this means.

CFL teams can stash up to 45 players on their negotiation lists, which doesn’t tie the players down in any way, shape, or form outside the CFL. It’s just a way of keeping dibs on potential talent.

Kaepernick obviously stirred up quite a storm back in 2016 when he knelt during the U.S. national anthem, protesting against police brutality and racial inequality. He hasn’t thrown a pass in an NFL game since that 2016 season, and some folks have been crying foul ever since.

The BC Lions, who are doing quite well at 10-4, don’t exactly have a burning need for a new quarterback with Vernon Adams Jr. doing some solid work, ranking second in passing yards and touchdowns league-wide.

Still, there’s an old saying – “You can never have too many good QBs.” And it’s not the first time a CFL team has flirted with the idea of Kaepernick. The Montreal Alouettes dabbled in 2017 but didn’t seal the deal.

So, the big question remains: Will Colin Kaepernick be interested in returning to football… in the CFL?
