Texas football star Colin Simmons was in Tampa last week at SEC Media Days. He earned the respect of event workers on site.
The response had little to do with his on-field play or his commentary on the year to come. Instead, it revolved around a kind gesture that many in his shoes might not feel was all that important.
Staffers sent Simmons’ mom a text to show their appreciation. She then shared that message on social media.
Who is Colin Simmons?
Simmons is a likely first round NFL Draft pick in 2027. He is viewed as one of the two best underclassmen at the edge position alongside Dylan Stewart of South Carolina.
Simmons led the SEC with 12 sacks a year ago. He’s totaled 29.5 tackles for loss across two college seasons. He’s also forced six fumbles and picked off a pass.
The versatile defender can do it all. He possesses insane athleticism and has more than lived up to his five-star billing as a high school senior.
If all goes well, this will be his last season in Austin. He got the opportunity to speak on his future and expectations ahead of his junior year.
Simmons was invited by head coach Steve Sarkisian to represent the school at SEC Media Days. He didn’t disappoint. Not only did he leave viewers with some incredible sound bites, but he demonstrated strong character when no one was looking.
No trash was left at SEC Media Days.
Colin Simmons’ mom, Monica, shared a message received after the yearly event. Her son picked up trash in the meeting room after a busy day.
“You raised an incredible son,” the note began. “Not only did he shine at media day today, but he left our green room better than we got it. There was a ton of trash from a day of snacking… Colin was the first to start cleaning it all up. Thank you for sharing him with us.”
That will certainly make mom proud. It should earn Simmons some respect, too. In a day and age when college football stars are receiving millions, the future pro displayed humility. That’s definitely something worthy of applause.
