Chicago State is the worst women’s college basketball team in the country. They have somehow lost more games than most other programs have played during the first month of the 2023/24 season.

The Cougars are 0-15 by a total combined score of 825 to 1,301. Oof.

Meanwhile, no team ranked inside the AP Poll Top 25 has played more than 12 games. All but nine have played less than 10. N.C. State is the only team to play 10 or more games without a loss.

Chicago State has not only played 15 games, it has lost all 15. One of which was especially brutal.

The Cougars played to triple overtime on Nov. 26. They lost by one.

Here is how the college basketball season has gone thus far:

  • vs. Loyola Chicago: 47-74
  • at Detroit Mercy: 48-83
  • at Minnesota: 42-100
  • vs. Ball State: 56-85
  • at FAU: 57-90
  • at Notre Dame: 35-113
  • vs. Kansas City (neutral site): 46-77
  • at Cleveland State: 41-95
  • vs. Austin Peay State (neutral site): 49-60
  • vs. Evansville: 102-103 (3OT)
  • at Western Illinois: 72-86
  • at Illinois State: 47-102
  • vs. Norfolk State: 68-76
  • at Valpariso: 64-83
  • at Butler: 51-84

Chicago State is the only team in the country to boast 15 losses this year. It will have its first opportunity to break the brutal losing streak on Monday afternoon at home against Georgia Southern. The Eagles are 6-2, so it is likely that they will win to push the streak to 16-straight games.

From there, the Cougars will play again on Friday, and next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Surely they’re due, right?!

Historically, no. They’re not.

Chicago State went 6-22 during the 2022/23 season. It took 20 games to get a win.

If that same pace applies to the new college basketball year, the Cougars will win next on Jan. 6. Idaho is making the trip east that day and are officially on upset alert!
