As curiosity continues to swirl around the possibility of a new college football video game, it is confirmed that EA Sports will release an updated version of NCAA Football in 2024. Don’t panic!

David Pillen, the associate athletic director of external affairs at Rice University, confirmed the upcoming release in a recent conversation with Diego Palos Rodriguez for the school’s student newspaper. He also offered some additional details about what to expect!

According to Pillen, Electronic Sports has been in communication with the Owls since the beginning of 2021. Its licensing partner reached a financial agreement with the university to be featured in the game.

There are still a few details to be ironed out, like how the athletes will be compensated. However, Pillen suggested that the players who opt-in to the game will undergo face scans to ensure that their likeness is as close to reality as possible. Those who do not opt-in will be replaced by a generic avatar.

Face scans have yet to occur, which indicates that 2024 rosters will be the first to be included.

In regard to Rice specifically, the Rice Thresher reported on the assets submitted to EA by the university. They include athletic logos, brand taglines, photos of competition, stadium visuals, a music track of the fight song and the alma mater, as well athletic logos and uniforms.

Submissions were largely left up to the schools themselves. The Owls submitted any uniform/helmet combination that was worn last season — including the incredible ‘Luv Ya Blue’ alternate kits.

It is unclear as to which uniform combinations will actually make it into the game. However, if it is the school that made the submission, that will be pretty awesome for a school like Oregon.

What we do know for sure is that there will be a larger variety in the new game. NCAA 14 only included a few uniforms for each school. That same notion is also true for the game on a more holistic scale.

This upcoming edition will be far more expansive in every aspect, all of the way down to the small details. And, perhaps most importantly, a new college football video game will come out this year!
