EA Sports set the internet on fire earlier this week by confirming the release of College Football 25. The video game is going to drop at some point this summer. It is unclear as to when that might be but the trailer looks awesome.

Regardless of when the game goes live, thousands of fans are going to lock themselves inside their homes for days on end while trying to lead their favorite college football teams to a national championship. And it appears as though that might also be possible on the FCS level!

Multiple Football Championship Subdivision programs seemed to indicate that they will be included in College Football 25. This is big news — if true.

We don’t know for sure if it is legit. Previous reporting stated that FCS teams will not be in the game, but recent posts on social media have caused confusion and speculation.

Gardner-Webb posted a graphic that certainly suggests it will be part of the new game. The caption literally reads “Gardner-Webb’s in the game.”

Portland State posted something very similar.

Both the Bulldogs and Vikings might be capitalizing on a current social media trend in an effort to get engagement. Maybe they didn’t understand the trend, in which FBS programs are confirming their inclusion in the game. Maybe they were just having fun.

If that is what is going on here, and FCS teams are not actually included, it’s cruel.

NCAA Football ’14 did not include actual FCS teams. It allows you play as/against ‘FCS Southeast’ and other fictional programs. It does not allow you to play as Incarnate Word.

That was fine, but having actual names involved is always better. Portland State and Gardner-Webb’s posts are leading fans to believe that real names will finally be used in College Football 25.

That’s how I read them too. To have an FCS program post that it is “in the game” would typically mean that said FCS program is in the game… No?
