The Colorado Avalanche were viewed as top contenders to take home the Stanley Cup last year thanks to a stacked roster that boasted studs including Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, and the team was able to cap off the season by doing exactly that and earning the right to raise the most iconic trophy in sports for the first time since 2001.

The franchise is once again favored to win it all heading into a campaign they’ll officially kick off on Wednesday night when they host the Blackhawks at home to open up the season. However, the team got one more chance to soak in the glory of their big win on Monday night when players, coaches, and members of the front office gathered to get their first look at the rings the Avalanche handed out to the Stanley Cup champions.

The rings are made out of 14-karat gold, with each one boasting a total of 669 diamonds, 20 sapphires, 42 rubies, and a number of overt and symbolic nods to what Colorado was able to achieve en route to hoisting Lord Stanley’s trophy.

However, the coolest part of the commemorative bling might have less to do with the rings themselves and more to do with the boxes that they came in.

Valeri Nichushkin’s girlfriend Svetlana Lyuk was on hand to witness the grand reveal and documented some of the festivities on Instagram—including the moment the Avalanche were told to open up the wooden boxes containing the rings.

It’s hard to think of a cooler surprise than what greeted them once they popped the lids, as each box contained a tiny projector that played a clip of the team streaming over the boards after securing the greatest prize hockey has to offer and sealing the deal in Game 6 against the Lightning.

It doesn’t get much better than that.
