Lucas Gilbreath took an interesting path to become a member of the Colorado Rockies.
He grew up in Colorado and was drafted by the team from his home state in the 36th round of the of the 2014 MLB Draft.

Instead of playing for the Rockies, he opted to head to college to play for Minnesota.

3 years later, the Rockies drafted him again, with the pick coming in the 7th round the 2nd time.

He then spent a few years in the minors before being promoted to the Rockies’ major league roster after the 2020 season ended.

Over the last couple of years, he has become an important piece of the Rockies’ bullpen, making 47 appearance in each of the last two seasons, working his way to a 5-2 record with a 3.78 ERA.

Unfortunately, he won’t be available for the Rockies to turn to during the 2023 season because he will be undergoing Tommy John surgery.

To reveal the news, Gilbreath decided to take to TikTok. He posted an interesting video to announce the news.

Ava Max’s “Sweet but Psycho” was certainly a surprising choice for the music in this video. REM’s “Everybody Hurts” or “Hurt” (the Nine Inch Nails or Johnny Cash version) would have seemingly fit the message of the video better, but the song choice was definitely a memorable one.

Now Lucas Gilbreath will turn his attention toward recovering in time for the 2023 season.

When he recovers, his return will be a big boost for the Rockies’ after he finished with the team’s 3rd best bullpen ERA.

We can only hope that whenever he is cleared to return that we will once again give fans the news with a TikTok video.
