Update 2:

The Commanders have a trade offer on the table for Montez Sweat, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

Update:

A league source tells Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk that there are rumors in league circles linking the Bears to a trade for Commanders pass-rusher Chase Young.

Original Story:

The Commanders are seeking a 2nd round pick in exchange for star pass rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Up until now, offers from interested NFL teams have only come in at the 3rd-round pick range, according to the report.

It was previously reported that the Commanders have made calls to other teams trying to gauge interest in their defensive ends.

Young and Sweat have been making an impact this season with a combined total of 10.5 sacks. Sweat has contributed 5.5 sacks, while Young has added 5 of his own.

Both of these guys were first-round selections in their respective drafts. Chase Young took the second overall spot in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he’s had his share of setbacks due to injuries. The team even decided not to exercise his fifth-year option, which means he’ll hit free agency in 2024.

On the flip side, Montez Sweat, who was the 26th overall pick in 2019, has shown consistent performance, accumulating 34.5 sacks in his career. He’s been close to the elusive double-digit sack season but hasn’t quite reached it, which could influence some teams to lean toward the untapped potential of Young.

The million-dollar question remains: Will Montez Sweat or Chase Young be traded ahead of the deadline?
