It looks like the Washington Commanders are exploring potential trade options for their defensive ends, Chase Young and Montez Sweat.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the team has reached out to other NFL teams to gauge the market’s interest, to “take the temperature.”

Young and Sweat have combined for 7.5 sacks this season, with Montez Sweat contributing 4.5 and Chase Young chipping in with 3.

Both of them are former first-round draft picks. Young, the second overall pick in the 2020 Draft, has had to battle through injuries since his impressive rookie season. His 5th-year option was even declined by the team, meaning he’s set to become a free agent in 2024.

Montez Sweat, the 26th overall pick in the 2019 draft, has been the more consistent player of the two, recording a career total of 33.5 sacks. However, he has yet to achieve a double-digit sack season, which might lead some teams to consider Chase Young’s untapped potential.

The outcome of the next couple of games will likely play a role in shaping the decision regarding the future of the two talented pass-rushers.

A trade will likely depend on the compensation the Commanders will receive for the players but Russini adds she gets the sense one of them will be on the move.
