Conor McGregor insists another comeback is already underway after successfully undergoing knee surgery following his devastating UFC 329 injury. The problem is that while the operation may have gone well, convincing fans he can still return to championship form could be a much tougher battle.

Just a day after his surgery, “Notorious” already shared a video on X showing himself outdoors wearing a heavy knee brace and using crutches. The update comes after the former UFC two-division champion confirmed he suffered both an ACL and meniscus tear during his long-awaited return against Max Holloway at UFC 329.

Unfortunately for Conor McGregor, his Octagon comeback only lasted 69 seconds and a knee injury became another setback to one of the most turbulent stretches of his career.

Despite the disappointing outcome, “Mystic Mac” projected his signature confidence.  McGregor made it clear that he believes another return is possible.

“Surgery done. Knee repaired. The doubters can keep talking. I didn’t run from the pain. I walked straight into it. Now the real work begins. Comeback season starts now. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just the will to rise again,” McGregor’s caption read.

He doubled down on that message in the video, saying:

“What’s up, folks? The Mac is back, baby. My knee is repaired. Surgery was a success, and now I’m on the road to recovery. That should tell you all you need to know about my mindset. Straight into surgery. Knee repaired and on the road. Let’s go.”

Some of Conor McGregor’s Fans Aren’t Convinced

McGregor certainly hoped the recovery update would reignite excitement. However, some reactions online suggested otherwise.

Not all were convinced that McGregor could still bounce back. Instead of celebrating with him, some of his fans questioned whether another UFC comeback is still realistic. Others, meanwhile, skipped the skepticism entirely and openly mocked the Irish MMA superstar.

“I throw better kicks than u @TheNotoriousMMA,” one fan wrote.

“This dude does a lot of talking and a lot of losing. President of Ireland? Nope! Last win? 6 years ago. I could honestly probably take him now,” another piled on.

More harsh comments ensued.

“Hate to break it to you my man, but you’re better at motivational speech than you are at fighting,” someone said.

“Your career as a fighter is over dude. Just give it up before you get humiliated. Don’t destroy your legacy. Oh and by the way. Max Holloway would wipe the ground with your face. You will get beat to a pulp,” another one remarked.

Father Time Has Become Conor McGregor’s Opponent

The criticism isn’t coming out of nowhere. It was mostly based on facts.

McGregor hasn’t won a fight since stopping Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 in 2020. Since then, injuries have repeatedly interrupted his career, while younger contenders have continued moving the sport forward.

Now 38 years old and recovering from another major knee reconstruction, McGregor faces the biggest challenge of his fighting career. History has shown that elite athletes can recover from ACL injuries but MMA places extraordinary stress on the knees because of striking, wrestling and constant explosive movements.

For McGregor, a successful UFC return is still happening. Whether his fans still shares that belief is a different story.
