Guardians OF Cooper Ingle made a costly error vs. the Rangers.
Cleveland Guardians ace Tanner Bibee dropped his ninth game of the year on Tuesday vs. the Rangers. At this moment in time, he has the unwanted honor of being the losingest pitcher in the American League.
Bibee has rookie outfielder Cooper Ingle to thank for that distinction. A boneheaded error in the seventh inning secured the dreadful title.
Bibee actually pitched well throughout the game, as he has for most of the year. He didn’t deserve the scratch on his stat line. Unfortunately, Ingle’s gaffe cemented the outcome.
Cooper Ingle’s error allowed the go-ahead run.
The Guardians faced off with the Rangers looking to avenge a 6-3 loss on Monday. Those pursuits proved unsuccessful. Texas plated a pair of runs across their last three at-bats to win, 4-2.
Bibee earned the start on Tuesday. He was extremely effective in the setback. The righty allowed two earned runs across seven innings of work while recording a pair of strikeouts.
He would not be rewarded for his efforts.
Cleveland’s offense never got going. It tallied just five hits and was held scoreless across the last eight frames. Twelve batters went down on strikes.
The run support was bad. Bibee’s defense failed him, too.
With the score tied at 2-2 in the seventh inning, Texas had a man on second base with one out. Bibee got Alejandro Osuna to fly out to shallow left field.
Ingle believed there were two outs. He tossed the ball into the crowd after making the catch. It allowed the baserunner to come around and score.

Coooper Ingle’s error gave the Rangers the lead. Bibee would strike the next batter out to limit the damage. He exited with a 3-2 deficit.
Cleveland was unable to overcome that hole. The outcome provided Bibee with his league-leading ninth loss.
No one has more losses than Tanner Bibee.
At least in the American League. The pitcher can’t seem to catch a break this year. He’s now 2-9 on the season despite allowing three runs or less in 15 of his 18 starts.
Ingle’s error cemented his latest loss. Had the brain fart not occurred, Bibee likely walks away with a no-decision.
The outfielder apologized to his teammate after the fact. Bibee filled the media in on his conversation with the rookie in the postgame.

That conversation was positive, though Ingle admitted to being dejected with his lack of awareness.
“We all make mistakes,” Bibee said. Unfortunately for the pitcher, this last one was costly.
