Cormani McClain is in the transfer portal after just one season with Deion Sanders at Colorado. One of his top suitors has an interesting plan to try and lure him in.

It is offering the opportunity to play on both sides of the ball, much like Travis Hunter Jr.

McClain did not take a single snap at wide receiver while with the Buffaloes. Should he accept the offer, it would be his first time playing on offense since his last year of high school in the fall of 2022.

The former five-star prospect had 26 scholarship offers as the top-ranked defensive back in the college football recruiting Class of 2023. He ultimately committed to Colorado after initially trending heavily toward Miami and his lone year in Boulder was a bust. There was a lot of drama between highly-coveted freshman and Coach Prime. Much of it was made public.

Now, after seeing action in just six games last season, McClain is in the transfer portal.

Two schools from his home state of Florida are considered to be his top suitors. As is Memphis, which is presenting him with the opportunity to play wide receiver in addition to cornerback.

McClain did not have many (if any?) offers to catch passes on the collegiate level out of high school. However, it’s not like he does not have any experience in that facet of the game.

The 6-foot-2, 165-pounder caught 31 passes for 447 yards and four touchdowns as a junior and 23 passes for 468 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore. He saw a few snaps on offense as a senior but focused primarily on defense.

Perhaps the Tigers are using this wide receiver idea as a way to land one of the top talents to enter the portal thus far. Maybe they will use McClain sparingly in gimmick packages. Maybe they will never take him off of the field, like Buffaloes do with Hunter. We don’t know.

McClain has to commit to Memphis before this conversation can go any further!
