The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in exploring extensions with two of their young stars: wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and cornerback Trevon Diggs.

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys EVP, recently remarked that the players, “are in our plans long term.” Diggs is entering the final year of his rookie deal, while Lamb still has two years remaining if he receives the fifth-year option.

Big Time Players

Lamb has had an impressive career thus far, with 260 catches for 3396 yards and 20 touchdowns. His best season came in 2022, when he set career highs with 107 catches for 1359 yards and 9 touchdowns.

His performance this past season has made him an integral part of the team’s offense, and the Cowboys are expected to exercise the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

Trevon Diggs, who was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, broke out in the 2021 season, recording 11 interceptions and 21 passes defended. He was also named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month in October 2021. His impressive performances have made him a key player in the Cowboys’ defense.

However, Diggs is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

If the Cowboys need more salary cap space, it has been reported that running back Zeke Elliott might have to take a “massive” paycut to remain with the team.

Both players are young starters that should receive lucrative contracts when they sign their extensions. It will be interesting to see what these deals look like and how they will impact the Cowboys’ long-term plans.
