As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, so too does the sports world continue to pay tribute to the nation of Ukraine. Today, a football club in Romania took one of their last matches of the season as an opportunity to pay tribute to Ukraine in this difficult time.

CS Universitatea Craiova travelled to Mioveni to take on CS Mioveni and saw a chance for a tribute. They decided to replace the names on the back of their jerseys with the names of Ukrainian cities that are currently being attacked by Russia.

Craiova won the match against Mioveni by a score of 3-0 while sporting the names of those Ukrainian cities on their backs. They got 2 goals from Jovan Markovic, who is the team’s 3rd leading scorer. He found the back of the net in the 25th and 34th minutes. Stefan Baiaram added a goal of his own in the 78th minute.

The win keeps Craiova in 3rd place with just one match to go in the regular season. They were already guaranteed to finish in the top 6 to earn a spot in the league’s Championship Round, but this will help them maintain their seeding in the tournament. Their spot in the tournament will give them the chance to win the league for the first time since the early 90s.

Hopefully we will get to see Craiova carry on this tribute to Ukraine throughout their run in the Romanian championship rounds.
