Fans Debate Which Team Will Win The Annual Jello-Shot Challenge At The College World Series

The College World Series field is set with the final teams booking their tickets to Omaha on Monday night. That means we have a new group of fanbases to compete in the annual CWS Jello-shot competition.

This challenge is hosted each year at Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina across the street from Charles Scwhab Field. The defending champions missed the NCAA Tournament field this time around, so we’ll have a new champ come season’s end.

Ole Miss won last year’s crown with fans downing an incredible 18,777 Jello-shots during the week-long event. The Rebels also won a national championship on the diamond, giving the fanbase another reason to celebrate.

That was more than 10,000 more than runner-up Arkansas, who’s also out of the field after being upset by TCU in the regionals.

Both of those schools saw boosters fork out thousands of dollars to the cause, and both totals easily bested the previous Jello-shot record of 2,965 set by SEC rival Mississippi State the previous season. In fact, Arkansas and Ole Miss fans drank so much that the bar actually ran out of Jello before the tournament’s end.

Rocco’s is hoping for similar results this time around, and there are more than a few contenders in the field.

Fans were quick to comment as they debated which fanbase will come out on top.

The early favorite amongst college baseball followers appears to be LSU.

This fan wrote, “LSU vs the field… combined.”

Someone else said, “I got the house on LSU being this year’s winner.”

Others, though, don’t think it’s so cut and dry.

SEC rivals Tennessee and Florida could provide some competition for the Tigers with this fan commenting, “The Vols and Gators are coming to drink!!”

Another said, “The battle between the Vols and the Bayou Bengals will be one for the ages.”

How about a fight from Big XII country? “Don’t count TCU out,” this fan wrote.

While many debate the winner, it seems a unanimous opinion that Stanford and Oral Roberts will bring up the rear.

In the end, though, everyone is a winner. Last year, Rocco’s donated a portion of the proceeds to charity.

If this year’s CWS Jello-shot competition is anywhere near as successful, we could see another generous donation in support of a good cause.
