As you probably know by now Sunday night’s rain-delayed Coke Zero 400 in Daytona ended in terrifyingly spectacular fashion when Austin Dillon in the #3 car went airborne into the catch fence in one of the wildest and scariest crashes we’ve ever seen.
Here’s what it looked like on television…
But what did it look like from the seat of the man who won the race, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.? It looked pretty damn scary to him as well.
Earnhardt: Oh no! Oh my God! Holy shit! That was awful.
His spotter: Yeah, buddy. It’s pretty bad.
Earnhardt: Oh my fucking God, man. Did you see that shit?
Here’s the entire conversation in which you could understandably hear the concern in Junior’s voice…
At the press conference after the race Earnhardt explained his reaction (via video at USA Today)…
“It scared the (expletive) out of me. I was near tears. I didn’t even know who it is, but you just don’t want to see anybody get hurt. It’s an awful feeling,” said Earnhardt.
It is truly amazing that somehow no one was seriously injured in the crash, so Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s feelings were most definitely warranted.
