Nearly 2 months after Dalvin Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings, it’s looking like he may have finally find his next team.

He is visiting the New York Jets this weekend and the expectation has become that he won’t have to take any more visits afterwards.

He has even come out and said that the odds are pretty high that he will join the Jets.

That was not the end of him discussing the Jets today.

He was also interviewed by CBS Sports’ Jaclyn DeAugustino today and he made a very bold claim about a New York Jets team he hasn’t actually joined yet.

He said that if he joins, the Jets could probably be a superteam.

“With the roster they have already and the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers, adding a guy like me – you know what I bring to the table – we could probably be a superteam when you put it together.”

These kinds of claims don’t have a history of working out particularly well in the NFL.

The most notable instance of a team making a claim like this about themselves is the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2011.

They called themselves a ‘dream team” after making some big offseason acquisitions. That claim backfired badly. The team ended up finishing with an 8-8 record that year and 2 years later the franchise ended up firing Andy Reid.

With a Hall of Fame quarterback and a defense that was among the best in the league last season, the Jets would be hoping to have better fortunes, but this is the type of comment that can easily backfire if the Jets don’t live up to the hype.

Dalvin Cook isn’t actually a Jet yet, but he is already trying to make sure there will be big expectations for the team if he signs.
