A week ago, it seemed pretty likely that Dalvin Cook was going to end up signing with the New York Jets.

He was set for a visit with the team, publicly stated that the odds were pretty high that he would sign there, and even said they could be a superteam if he signed with the Jets.

A week later, Cook remains unsigned and now it looks like one of the teams that has been interested in signing the Pro Bowl running back could have some added motivation to get a deal done.

When Cook first hit the free agent market, the Miami Dolphins were seen as the most likely tam to bring him in.

The Dolphins don’t have a clear lead back on their depth chart and Cook is also from Miami.

Now the Dolphins could be developing an even bigger need at running back that will help Cook secure a deal.

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, Devon Achane was seen in street clothes and walking gingerly at practice today and Jeff Wilson went to the locker room during the early portion of practice.

Injuries could easily be a concern for the Dolphins this season with the group of running backs they have right now. Raheem Mostert has missed significant time with injuries since 2018. Jeff Wilson also dealt with injuries during his time in San Francisco.

Devon Achane is a small running back who could have a tough time staying healthy if he has to take on a large workload.

Dalvin Cook has an injury history of his own, but didn’t miss a game last season while getting just over 300 touches.

He’d also be a pretty big improvement for the Dolphins even though he looked like he was slowing down a bit last season.

Both of the running back injuries the Miami Dolphins are facing right now could prove to be minor, but maybe it will be enough to convince them to sign Cook before he goes elsewhere.
