While there’s no denying that Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell comes across as an extremely likable guy, there comes a point in all professions — particularly in high-profile professional sports — where a person’s character doesn’t matter if required results aren’t being achieved. And Campbell is getting dangerously close to that point if he’s not already there.

After almost a season-and-a-half in Detroit, Campbell has posted a 4-17-1 record (so far) and is currently overseeing the worst defense in the NFL. And despite the Lions’ lack of improvement where it matters most — their record — Campbell continues to regurgitate increasingly hollow “this team should have more wins” takes.

Dan Campbell, who has won four out of 22 games as Lions head coach, says the team “should have more wins” than they do right now

Speaking to reports earlier this week, Campbell ignored the old Bill Parcells adage that you “are what your record says you are” and said that his Lions, who have just one win so far this year, “should have more wins than they have right now.”

“I knew where we were at a year ago, I know where we’re at now and I know where we’re gonna be,” Campbell said. “I know this: We should have more wins than we have right now. I believe that. Everything’s about finding a way to win this first one, we’ve got to get this Dallas game, and then we work from there.” [via ProFootballTalk]

As Campbell’s comments mention, the Lions will be taking on the 4-2 Dallas Cowboys, who are expecting the return of starting quarterback Dak Prescott. After getting shut out 29-0 by the New England Patriots last week, Campbell’s Lions need to respond or he could wind up being the next head coach to lose his job this season.
