Things are getting interesting in the NFL right now. Especially for the New York Giants.

The future of the franchise hangs in the balance of the contract negotiations with Daniel Jones.

That’s especially true when you include the ramifications it could have on Saquon Barkley.

According to Ian Rapoport, the ideal situation is for Daniel Jones to sign an extension with the Giants. The reason? If the front office places the franchise tag on him, then Saquon Barkley is more than likely hitting the open market.

It certainly doesn’t help that reports suggest that Jones and New York are far apart on an agreement. Especially with the franchise tag deadline quickly approaching.

Allowing Barkley to hit free agency could mean the Giants lose out on re-signing their superstar running back. For that reason, New York would probably like it if Daniel Jones agrees to a long-term deal.

Once signed, the front office could then possibly tag Saquon Barkley and further contract negotiations for the time being.

Instead, it seems New York is in limbo and could be forced to make a decision that could lead them to lose the best player on the roster.

We’ll see how it plays out for the Giants. The deadline for placing the franchise tag is at 4 p.m. Eastern. Will Daniel Jones re-sign, or will he force the Giants’ hand?
