Daniel Negreanu’s Wild Hand Leads To First Poker Tournament Win Of The Year

The ‘Kid Poker’ got off to a hot start and won his first poker tournament of the year just two days into 2024. Daniel Negreanu took down the PGT Last Chance Event #1 for $218,400 for his first poker win of 2024, beating out a stacked final table that included Isaac Haxton, Justin Bonomo, and other poker pros.

The final table aired on the PokerGo YouTube channel where a full replay of the action can be streamed. But it is the final hand that gifted Daniel Negreanu this year’s first poker win that is drawing headlines.

Playing heads-up against Daniel Smilijkovic, Negreanu looked down to find he’d been dealt the Big Slick. Negreanu had Daniel Smilijkovic covered in chip stacks, 6.7 million to 4.675 million, with 75/150K blinds. Daniel Smilijkovic has Jd2d and was gifted a present from the poker gods on the flop when it came out 10dJcJh giving Smilijkovic a set of Jacks.

With only four outs in the deck for Daniel Negreanu to win, he needed a queen or his chip stack wold severely crippled. Check it out:

This is 100% the best way Negreanu could start his year and he really should be commended for navigating a stacked field. Poker pro and PokerCoaching.com coach Jonathan Little went out in 9th place, Nick Schulman busted in 8th, and Isaac Haxton was eliminated in 7th. that’s a murderer’s row of pro’s pros to get through to reach the final table.

The full replay of the PGT Last Chance Event #1 final table can be streamed here on PokerGo’s YouTube Channel:

There will be 5 more PGT events in the coming days prior to the PGT Championship which begins on January 9th. PokerGo/PGT will have live reporting of all the events.
