If you were denying that UConn Men’s Basketball was a dynasty before, you can’t any longer. UConn smashed Purdue, 75-60, in the National Championship Game on Monday night to win their second consecutive national title.

Back-to-back titles is definitely worthy of dynasty status, and they’re the first team to do that since Florida back in 2006-2007. We shouldn’t be surprised, as UConn Head Coach Danny Hurley warned us this was coming all the way back in 2020.

Since, it’s been total domination. UConn is 105-29 with twelve consecutive wins in the NCAA Tournament. They’ve won those twelve games by a remarkable average of 22 points per game. That level of domination in the men’s tournament doesn’t even make sense.

Don’t let the final margin of fifteen points fool you. The game was never that close once the second-half began. UConn, who led 36-30 at the half, quickly extended the lead to double-digits and after a Samson Johnson dunk put them up 11 with 15:24 left, it never got under 10 again. He dunked again on the next possession, too!

This tournament certainly proved that UConn, who entered as the top overall seed, was the best team in the country this year. The team that wins the Big Dance is not always the best team in the country, but it’s clear as day after these last two weeks. Simply put, when UConn was locked in, no one could beat them. Credit to a healthy Kansas, Seton Hall, and Creighton for handing them their only three losses of the year.

There are rumors that Kentucky could be interested in bringing in Danny Hurley, as John Calipari is headed to Kentucky. But, UConn has six titles since 1999, three more than Duke and UNC, who are in second place since then. It seems like there’s little upside to leave what has truly turned into a dynasty.
