OH. MY. GOODNESS. DARNELL. MOONEy.

Early in the first half of Sunday’s game between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions, Justin Fields overthrew his intended target. Or so it seemed.

Darnell Mooney was streaking across the middle of the field and found himself wide open without a defender in sight. Fields, making the second start of his young career, threw the ball in his direction but send it sailing.

For most people, the ball may have gone off of their finger tips or missed them entirely. Not Mooney.

The 23-year-old, second-year wide receiver out of Tulane was making that catch, no matter what it took. He laid all the way out for a ridiculous one-handed catch and hauled it in for 19 yards.

Mooney must have been hitting the rice bucket and squeezing his stress ball because the grab was all finger tips. It was insane.

To make things even better, Gus Johnson was in the booth.

“OHHHHH WHAT A CATCH! DARNELL MOONEY WENT UP AND GOT IT!”

Johnson’s innate ability to make every single play feel important, to grasp the moment and hang on every second is incredible. He made the throw and catch from Fields to Mooney incredibly suspenseful, and lost his mind.

The Bears ended up scoring on the drive after Mooney’s stick-um snag which put them in great position to beat the very, truly terrible Lions.
