Dave Portnoy and Megyn Kelly are beefing over Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark has so broken the brains of the sports world that she now has cogs in the conservative media apparatus at odds, as Dave Portnoy and Megyn Kelly are at odds over her response to questions about teammate Sophie Cunningham’s political stances.
After Caitlin Clark declined to weigh in on Sophie Cunningham’s comments about transgender athletes in youth sports, conservative media personality Megyn Kelly called her a “coward” for refusing to answer.
Megyn Kelly called Caitlin Clark a coward for refusing to comment on transgender athletes and Dave Portnoy fired back to defend her
“I think, for us, it’s not really a discussion we really have in our locker room,” Clark said in response to the question about Cunningham’s recent foray into the culture wars.
“I think it’s for leagues and the governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions, but our focus is on basketball. That’s what we talk about and how we can get wins, and, obviously, we didn’t do that tonight.”

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy’s loyalty to Clark — of whom he’s been a long-time vocal supporter — took precedent over falling in line with the rest of conservative media outrage over the situation, as he called Kelly a “moron” and an “idiot” for her take on Clark, arguing that the WNBA star just wants to be a basketball player and not a culture war chess piece.
“Absolute moron/idiot to call Caitlin a coward for this answer. 1st of all you don’t even know how she feels on this issue and more importantly she doesn’t owe it to you or anybody else to be your political talking point. She just wants to play ball. Total coward cheap shot to call her a coward for not being your puppet,” Portnoy responded.

Kelly wasn’t prepared to let Portnoy get the last word, however, as she told the 49-year-old internet star to “sit this one out.”
Why don’t you sit this one out since you didn’t even have any idea today “how big a problem” this is. (Hint: UCLA Law estimates over 120k trans athletes at the HS level.) Understand this however: if it were your daughter suffering brain damage from a boy posing as a girl, you… https://t.co/v6iI1BZDwo

Clark, in her third WNBA season, is currently averaging 21.5 points and 7.9 assists per game despite navigating congressional letters, death threats, officiating controversies, a USA Today column that invoked Emmett Till in an article about her flopping, and now this Cunningham contention.
After spending much of her second season injured, Clark — as Portnoy mentions — is likely just looking to ball and not get involved in political discourse.
