David Gabriel-Georges committed to play college football at Tennessee because he wanted to play college football at Tennessee. Any other narrative(s) surrounding his record-breaking recruitment are false.
Did money play a role? Probably.
However, that does not mean that Gabriel-Georges made his college football decision only based on finances. He did what he thinks is best for his future after long talks with God and the people in his life that he trusts the most.
David Gabriel-Georges will get paid at Tennessee.
As the No. 2-ranked running back in the recruiting Class of 2027, David Gabriel-Georges received 31 scholarship offers from schools all over the country. His decision ultimately came down to Ole Miss, Tennessee and Ohio State.
I have been extremely high on the Canadian-born ball-carrier since his freshman season at the Baylor School. He is one of the most talented high school players I have ever seen and the stats back it up. Gabriel-Georges ran for 1,756 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2025 with an average of more than 11 yards per carry. The most insane touchdown of his junior high school football season took place before it even started and he followed it up with one of the toughest runs you will ever see in October.

In the end, after months of back and forth in the headlines, Gabriel-Georges committed to Tennessee over Ohio State— just as most everybody suspected. The Volunteers are willing to overhaul their entire running back room to make a true freshman the star. They are also going to pay him ~$6 million over the next three seasons with additional perks like family travel packages.
Stop with the false narratives!
The video of David Gabriel-Georges’ commitment went extremely viral on social media. Some fans (especially Buckeyes fans) questioned his family’s subdued reaction. Did they want him to go to Ohio State? Why were they not more excited?

Perhaps it stemmed from their disappointment with his decision. Perhaps it stems from a language barrier. His parents immigrated from Haiti to Quebec. French is their first language. Same with their son, actually.
Or, maybe, the reaction was a reflection of a respectful family that was not there to put on a show. They can be thrilled for him without making the moment bigger than it needs to be.
There has been a lot of chatter about Gabriel-Georges’ recruitment over the last few weeks. Much of it has been negative.
Gabriel-Georges had to set the record straight about his uncle’s comments at the beginning of the month. He also decided to set the record straight about his decision in a lengthy statement on Wednesday night. The decision was his own. His family helped him.
That settles that. David Gabriel-Georges did what he wanted to do. His focus is on his senior year at Baylor. Move on!
