Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs gave fans the feel-good story of the weekend when he revealed that teammate David Montgomery let his take his touchdown carry.

The rookie said that Montgomery asked him if he wanted the ball at the one-yard line, then proceeded to let Gibbs take the scoring touch.

“I was supposed to come out,” Gibbs said while talking to the St. Brown brothers. “But then David came at me and was like, ‘Hey, Jah, you want it?’ I was thinking about it, ‘Yeah, yeah, let me get it.’ He said, ‘Bet,’ and he just ran out and let me get [the TD].”

The touchdown run paved the way for a big first half in the Lions’ win over the Chargers. It was one of two first half scores the rookie running back had on the day.

Montgomery’s audible to Gibbs had fantasy FB implications.

The move made Gibbs’ fantasy football owners extremely happy as they’ve been cautious about putting him into their lineups now that Montgomery has returned from injury.

Prior to Sunday, Montgomery had earned the goal line role, scooping up six touchdowns over his first four contests. He added another over the weekend to move his season total to seven scores, but he might’ve had one more if not for his kind gesture.

With that being said, many immediately began to question the rusher’s motive behind letting Gibbs take the touchdown.

“This confirms he has Gibbs on his fantasy team.”

“Monty making that playoff push as a Gibbs owner.”

Those with Gibbs on their roster were certainly thankful of the audible.

Those with Montgomery weren’t necessarily thrilled, and surely affected someone in a close matchup with their opponent.

As it stands, both players totaled more than 100 yards of offense and each reached paydirt at least once. We’ll see if the rookie repays the favor later in the season.
