Free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is seeking a “significant contract” on the open market after being released by the Arizona Cardinals.

According to a source who spoke with ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, Hopkins has high expectations for his next deal, anticipating a substantial payday.

Worth noting that Hopkins’ previous contract, paid him less than $20 million this year, and it proved to be unattractive to potential trade partners.

Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 212 pounds, the 30-year-old Hopkins is now free to sign with any team that can meet his contract demands.

Despite facing challenges during the 2022 season, including a suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy and missing several games, Hopkins displayed his value as a top-tier target. In just nine starts, he amassed impressive statistics, recording 64 receptions for 717 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his exceptional skills and playmaking abilities.

Recently, in an episode of the I Am Athlete podcast recorded while he was still with the Cardinals, Hopkins provided some insight into the qualities he desires in his next team.

He emphasized the importance of playing with a quarterback who possesses a genuine love for the game and has the ability to rally the entire team. Additionally, Hopkins expressed his preference for a team with a strong defense, acknowledging that “Defense wins championships.” He highlighted the significance of a robust defensive line.

Stability within the team’s management structure was another crucial factor for Hopkins, who revealed that he had already experienced four general managers throughout his career.

Now that DeAndre Hopkins is officially a free agent, he has the opportunity to handpick his next team. He has expressed interest in playing alongside quarterbacks such as Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers.

These quarterbacks are known for their exceptional skills and have the potential to elevate Hopkins’ game to new heights.

As the offseason progresses, it will be intriguing to see which team will meet DeAndre Hopkins’ contract demands and secure his services. With his track record of excellence and impressive on-field performance, Hopkins is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after free agents in the NFL.

The team that ultimately lands him will gain a dynamic playmaker who can change the course of a game and provide a significant boost to their offensive firepower.
