We’ve already seen numerous head coaching hires made within the college football world. However, there’s one we’re all still keeping our eyes on. The Colorado Buffaloes have been rumored to potentially hire Deion Sanders as their next head coach. Now, Sanders addresses the situation, but there’s a catch.
According to Football Scoop, Deion Sanders claims the Colorado head coaching offer “is true.” The Buffaloes clearly love the way he’s coached Jackson State, as he’s helped put the Tigers on the map. Here’s Coach Prime’s full response to the rumors.
“Yeah, definitely, the report is true,” Sanders said. “They’re not the only ones. The report is true. I’m not going to sit here and tell all my business, but they’re not the only ones.”
However, that doesn’t quite mean anything yet, per Ralph D. Russo. He explains it further below.
“Offered the job” is never quite so straightforward in college sports.
It’s a game of semantics where you don’t get an “offer” until you have “accepted.”

So, maybe Colorado actually offered him, but maybe they didn’t. Regardless, Deion Sanders doesn’t come off as someone who would lie. At the end of the day, this is a rather smart move by Deion Sanders to address the rumors. If he’s interested in a different program, then maybe the fear of loss could force other schools to make an offer to him as well.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Considering how well Deion Sanders has coached Jackson State, he certainly could succeed at a small-ish program in a Power 5 conference. Look for rumors to continue to heat up with the college football season coming close to an end.
