Deion Sanders got prosthetic toes.
Deion Sanders has 10 toes again thanks to a surprise gift from Colorado. The football coach’s son revealed the present in a video posted to social media on Wednesday.
Coach Prime had two toes amputated in 2021 while at Jackson State. The amputations came as a result of surgery for life-threatening blood clots.
He’s “10 toes down again” thanks to the new addition, which will hopefully lead to a more comfortable everyday life.
Deion Sanders had to amputate two toes.
He showed off the aftermath of that surgery in an interview with Shannon Sharpe in 2022. Sanders’ big toe and second toe are no longer on his foot.

Deion Sanders had two toes on his left foot amputated due to blood clots stemming from a previous surgery… Sanders was hospitalized for around a month in the middle of last season when the Tigers finished 11-2.
He had a dislocated toe along with an inflamed nerve… As he healed, his toes began to darken under the bandages.
The 54-year-old Sanders underwent several surgeries. He developed a femoral arterial blood clot. He also had compartment syndrome, where his leg swelled up, and doctors had to flay open his leg to drain fluid. Sanders later had his big toe and the second toe amputated.
The series of surgeries forced Sanders to cart around on the sidelines while coaching the Tigers. He says the amputations were far better than the alternative.

Doctors first feared that they’d have to take his leg. It then got the point of life-threatening status. Luckily, the clot issue was solved with just the two toes being taken.

Deion Sanders Jr., aka Bucky, posted a video of Deion Sanders receiving prosthetic toes from the Colorado training staff. He got the opportunity to try them on this week ahead of a game vs. Northwestern.
Coach Prime seems happy with the new additions, though they will take some time getting used to. His other toes have curled over a bit in order to compensate for the amputation. They’ll need to be straightened out for a more comfortable feel.
Sanders was able to walk around on his new toes both with and without shoes. They should help prevent blisters and other discomfort moving forward.
“This gets me back to being 10 toes down,” he said, having some fun with the situation. He’s made light of the missing piggies since having the surgery done five years ago. He understands that things could’ve been much worse.
Hopefully, he’ll be able to feel the difference on the sidelines in Boulder this year. Colorado is off to a strong start in the 2026 campaign, going 2-0 with wins over Georgia Tech and Weber State.
