Deion Sanders has not spoken to Julian Lewis amid a QB controversy.
A quarterback controversy is currently brewing in Boulder. Colorado benched Julian Lewis during last week’s loss to Baylor. Isaac Wilson is expected to be named the starter in Week 5.
Deion Sanders was asked about the potential demotion in his most recent press conference. He has not spoken to Lewis.
Lewis has struggled over his last two games, both of which resulted in Colorado losses. The Buffs were blown out by Northwestern in Game 3. They followed it up with a 23-13 setback at Baylor.
In those two contests, the signal caller threw for 243 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. The offense had as many turnovers as points in the loss to the Wildcats. Lewis was unable to lead a touchdown drive last week against the Bears.
As a result, he was benched at halftime. Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of Zach, took over and immediately tied the game.
Colorado still lost, but it was more productive with Wilson under center. He doubled up Julian Lewis in yardage and threw a touchdown strike.
Sanders has applauded Wilson’s leadership in the days to follow, signaling a potential changing of the guard.

The expectation is for Wilson to continue leading the offense in Week 5 against Texas Tech. He gives the Buffs the best chance to win.
The coaching staff believes Lewis was playing scared in his most recent outing. Sanders said the following after the game, referencing his benched starter.
“I expect leadership from (certain players). I don’t expect that from certain positions. That’s not the makeup of who they are.”

Simply put, Lewis is not where he needs to be from a development standpoint. His demotion has created concerns of a potential transfer.
Sanders fueled those rumors with his social media activity earlier this season. He liked a post on Instagram which called the passer “trash.”
The head coach hasn’t yet pulled the trigger on a quarterback change, at least publicly. He insists that the competition will continue into this week. A starter will officially be named closer to gameday.

Deion Sanders has been critical of a number of players over the last few weeks. He did not like the team’s response at Northwestern. Players were laughing after getting blown out.
Coach Prime wants to play the players that care about winning. His comments would suggest that Isaac Wilson is the team’s starting quarterback, though he has not informed either passer about a switch.
The drama will do little to quiet the transfer rumors surrounding Julian Lewis.
