Deion Sanders is trending as a popular candidate to replace Geoff Collins at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets parted ways with the fourth-year head coach on Sunday following another brutal loss.

Georgia Tech started the season 1-3, falling to Clemson, Ole Miss, and UCF all by at least three scores. This comes after posting three consecutive three-win seasons in Atlanta.

Now, the search for Collins’ replacement begins. And it wouldn’t be a coaching search without Deion Sanders’ name coming up.

Deion Sanders trending as popular Georgia Tech replacement

Sanders is a popular name in the college football world any time a coaching vacancy becomes available. He was mentioned in connection to the TCU job last season, but nothing ever came of it.

Now, he’s been a trendy nominee with programs like Auburn and Arizona State, but his links to the Atlanta area might make Georgia Tech the top contender.

Sanders was a Hall of Fame defender with the Falcons following his college career at Florida State. He also played for the Braves in a stint in the MLB.

A return to Atlanta could be enticing.

It would also be move to the Power Five, taking over an ACC program that has a ton of recruiting potential in the southeast. But would he leave Jackson State?

He’s made waves at the HBCU, landing some of the top recruits in the nation. He also has two sons that currently play on the team, which might make it difficult to leave JSU.

Still, the Georgia Tech opening has folks bringing up Sanders’ name on social media.

Many members of the media chimed in on the Georgia Tech opening, linking Deion Sanders to the vacancy. Carl Reed of 24/7 Sports said, “Georgia Tech opening officially, is the first major domino to fall. In what will be an aggressive pursuit of multiple schools for the services of Jackson State’s Head Coach Deion Sanders.”

Barrett Sallee of CBS Sports wrote, “Georgia Tech should hire Deion Sanders to replace Geoff Collins.”

Trey Wallace of Outkick commented, “Deion Sanders going back to Atlanta and coaching Georgia Tech would be pretty darn cool. He’ll listen, but would he jump if offered?”

Speculation will continue to run wild with the Yellow Jackets job opening up. Time will tell whether Sanders makes the move to the ACC or stays put at Jackson State.
