Derek Carr was all smiles at his introductory press conference with the New Orleans Saints.

He’s been given a new opportunity after the Las Vegas Raiders decided to release the veteran quarterback.

Now, it sounds like Carr is using that recent release as fuel for the 2023 season.

According to ESPN, Derek Carr is ready to go after signing his new contract with New Orleans. Additionally, the release apparently fired him up. Here is Carr explaining his thought process on how everything played out in Las Vegas.

“I mean, I get it. But it hurt. For me as a competitor, I wanted to finish with my teammates. It lit a fire in me, that I’ve always had, but it just made it hot. It gave me this excitement.”

With Derek Carr leading the way, the Saints might just be in the driver’s seat of the NFC South. Their divisional rivals are still figuring out their quarterback situation, so signing Carr is massive for New Orleans.

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out for this team. The offense has plenty of weapons for Derek Carr to work with. On top of that, it sounds like he has high hopes for Michael Thomas, per ESPN.

“Carr, who talked to [Michael] Thomas extensively throughout the free agency process, spoke as if he expected to be teammates with the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year.”

According to reports, Derek Carr, “even told Saints general manager Mickey Loomis after one of those conversations that he felt like the pair could ‘go out there and face the world.'”

With that said, it sure sounds like Carr has found new life in New Orleans.
