I Wasn’t Stoked Derrick Henry Won The Heisman Until I Watched This Video Of His Family’s Reaction…All The Feels

I’ll admit I’ve been munching on some sour grapes now for a few days, ever since Dalvin Cook and Leonard Fournette didn’t get their invites to New York City for The Heisman Award ceremony. Well, I’ve moved past my saltiness after watching this video. In it Derrick Henry’s family talks about where he came from, what him winning the award might mean, and why the extended family wasn’t with him in New York City for the Heisman Award Ceremony. Seriously bros, get ready for the feels:

If you’ve ever driven through Yulee, Florida you’d know there isn’t shit there other than a Chick-fil-A down the road, and Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island a little further on down that road. It’s a town that exists as a stop on the way to another place, not the type of town that was ever meant to produce one of the greatest athletes college football has seen this bust out year. It’s pretty fucking awesome that Derrick Henry has just been named the best player in college football when he came from a town that thrives on paper mills and fishing. I love it.

I am not saying that Derrick Henry isn’t the best college football player in the country, I just feel that there’s enough evidence and stats to claim that the best player is one of the other guys that were on The Heisman stage, or that it was someone who didn’t even get an invite. Derrick Henry has has close to 50,000x more touches than any of the other candidates this season AND he’s running every play from behind Alabama’s offensive line that’s replete with 5-star recruits. He had an edge but that shit doesn’t matter now. Derrick Henry has deservingly won the 2015 Heisman Award trophy.
