Squirrel on the field during Detroit Tigers vs. Baltimore Orioles game

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a squirrel walks onto a baseball field… Sound familiar? Probably because this clip has hit nuclear levels of virality over the past 12 hours.

It took the entire Detroit Tigers grounds crew and Baltimore Orioles OF Leody Taveras to capture the squirrel on the field. Home plate umpire Bill Miller was hyping up the crowd and asking for applause. And Detroit Tigers play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti delivered a Hall of Fame-caliber call of the action.

Detroit Tigers Grounds Crew Outfoxed By A Squirrel Who Stopped The Game

Both the MLB and Jomboy Media have shared competing videos of the Detroit Tigers squirrel antics. Each clip has over 700K views since around 9pm last night. Interestingly, Jomboy’s video has around 80K more than the official MLB account and was shared 20 minutes after MLB posted their video.

I completely lost track of how many adults are in this video chasing the squirrel. It’s an entire army of grounds crew trying to corner the Tigers squirrel and get it off the field to no avail. Check it out:

If you weren’t rooting for the squirrel in this chase then you need to reevaluate everything in life. Seeing a professional baseball game where the players on the field are making tens and tens of millions of dollars get postponed because a rodent has decided to frolic around is part of what makes baseball such a great sport.

Here is an alternate angle of the Detroit Tigers squirrel chase:

With 162 games a year and games lasting several hours each day/night, and 30 teams in action on any given day, there are so many opportunities for shenanigans go happen and that’s exactly what went down here, shenanigans.
