Devin Booker’s life is not like most people’s lives. The 25-year-old from Mississippi via Michigan is a three-time NBA All-Star, has millions in the bank, and is dating one of the most recognizable people in the world, Kendall Jenner.

At age 12, he played one-on-one against current Atlanta Hawks forward Danilo Gallinari. At age 20, he became the youngest player to score over 60 points in a NBA game, finishing with 70. At age 22, Booker became the youngest player in NBA history to score 50 points in consecutive games. He has already had himself quite a life.

This week, in a new interview with WSJ magazine, Booker spoke about some of his life, including how the late Kobe Bryant changed it and what it’s like dating one of the Kardashian clan.

Kobe Bryant once gave Devin Booker some advice that he says changed his life

“Be legendary,” the advice that Kobe had left me with in the short time I got to spend with him in our last game playing against each other,” said Booker when asked for one piece of advice he’s gotten that’s guided him.

“He left it with a mark on my shoe and he wrote it out, ‘Be legendary.’ And not only did he write it on the shoe and sign it for me, but just talking me through it and talking through the steps that it’s going to take to get there. Kobe’s always been an inspiration, so hearing it in his voice and seeing it in his handwriting on the shoes keeps me motivated.”

He also has it tattooed on his right forearm. “Any glimpse I can see of it, any photo where I look and I’m shooting the ball and I see it, it’s a perfect reminder for me,” he said.

As for what it’s like dating an ultra-famous model like Kendall Jenner, Booker said the spotlight isn’t all bad.

“I wouldn’t say [it’s] hard,” he said. “Honestly, I’m enjoying life to the fullest, and that came off my tongue so easily because it wasn’t always this way, but I feel like I’m in a good place right now. I love my family, I love the people around me, and I love the impact that I get to have on this world, the younger generation under me and the kids who look up to me.”
