The arrest of and legal charges against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has taken another bizarre turn as attorneys for the disgraced rapper and producer are alleging that the federal government conspired to take him down.
Specifically, Diddy’s lawyers are accusing the Department of Homeland Security of leaking footage of their client assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie to CNN back in May.
Diddy’s home was raided by Homeland Security agents in March, followed by his arrest on September 16. Diddy has been charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, and is currently being held at the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, which former inmates have described as “pure hell.”
If convicted, Diddy, who has pled not guilty to the charges, faces a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison.
According to new legal docs, Diddy’s attorneys accuse the feds of misconduct in his criminal case namely, by allegedly orchestrating the leak of the Cassie tape to CNN. In the docs, Diddy is specifically blaming the Department of Homeland Security, not the U.S. Attorney’s office.
“His attorneys say after being approached by CNN, they emailed the prosecutors assigned to Diddy’s case and told them they had gotten word CNN had been given a video tape of the Intercontinental Hotel from 2016 and told prosecutors, ‘My concern is that someone (not any of you and not the lead case agents) provided this footage to CNN. I bring this to your attention solely because I imagine you didn’t want this to happen any more than I do.'” [via TMZ]
While Diddy is set to be present in court for a status hearing on Thursday, October 10, he is not expected to speak, according to reports from CNN.
When Diddy was arrested in September, federal authorities accused the Bad Boy Records mogul of engaging in “decades of mental, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse.”
