New Mexico State quarterback Diego Pavia is under investigation after appearing to urinate on the Aggies’ rival logo earlier this year. Both schools are looking into the incident, and Pavia will likely receive a suspension if the allegations are true.

Pavia, a fourth-year junior, transferred to New Mexico State after leading New Mexico Military Institude to the junior college national championship in 2021. He quickly earned the starting job in Las Cruces and helped to lead the Aggies to just their second bowl game in school history with their second seven-win season since 2002.

His 14.36 yards per completion was fifth among all quarterbacks on the FBS level and he combined for 21 total touchdowns on the year. New Mexico State does not have such a magical year without Pavia.

The dual-threat signal-caller is a joy to watch on the gridiron.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Aggies entering 2023 after last year’s Quick Lane Bowl win over Bowling Green. Pavia was a big reason why.

Unfortunately, their year began with a loss to UMass in Week 0 and a loss to Liberty in Week 2. At 1-2, New Mexico State prepared to roll into Albuquerque for a rivalry bout against New Mexico in Week 3.

There is always a lot of tension between the two sides, but things were turned up a notch this year. The Lobos tried to prevent the visiting band from attending the game by charging a petty new fee for each member. Adding that on top of the already heightened excitement over a rivalry game took it to the next level.

The Aggies ended up winning by 10 and Pavia even gestured to the death of the Lobos after finding pay dirt during the second half.

It was clear how much the game meant to Pavia.

The college football rivalry game may have meant too much to NMSU QB Diego Pavia.

However, Pavia may have crossed a line before the game. A video recently surfaced that appears to show him urinating on the New Mexico logo inside of the rival school’s practice facility.

Nothing is confirmed at this point, but it sure looks like Pavia peed on the logo while wearing his team-issued warmups before the game. At the very least, it looks like Pavia is pretending to pee on the logo.

New Mexico issued the following statement:

We are aware of the video and notified NMSU athletic administration of its existence last Monday morning.

The Lobos added that visiting programs should not have access to their indoor facilities. They are not sure when this alleged incident actually happened.

The Aggies responded with a statement as expected.

Assuming that the video is exactly what it appears to be, Pavia will likely be suspended in coming days.
