DIRECTV, one of the leading satellite television providers, has revealed a significant renewal and expansion of its carriage agreement with NFL Media, signaling a continued partnership that brings football fans unparalleled access to NFL content.
The multi-year agreement ensures that DIRECTV will continue to carry the NFL Network and introduces the distribution of NFL Network through DIRECTV STREAM and U-verse.
In a notable move, DIRECTV will now offer NFL RedZone across all platforms for the first time. This means that subscribers can enjoy the excitement and non-stop action of NFL RedZone, hosted by the renowned Scott Hanson, on any device of their choice.
The decision marks the end of the era of dueling Red Zone channels, as DIRECTV’s previous version, hosted by Andrew Siciliano, will no longer be available.
Siciliano’s rendition of Red Zone had gained immense popularity since its inception in 2005, leading NFL Media to launch its own version with Hanson in 2009. However, with DIRECTV no longer carrying the NFL Sunday Ticket package, Siciliano’s version of Red Zone has regrettably become obsolete.
In addition to the RedZone announcement, DIRECTV and NFL Media have solidified a multi-year deal that secures the continued availability of NFL Network on DIRECTV. This includes satellite customers as well as those who prefer to stream their content.
The significance of NFL programming cannot be overstated, as it consistently garners an enormous viewership. According to Nielsen, a staggering 185 million people tuned in to the 2022 NFL regular season, with an average of 16.7 million viewers per game.
Impressively, NFL games claimed a staggering 88 out of the 100 most-watched TV shows across all programming in 2022.
While the specific terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the partnership between DIRECTV and NFL Media promises to deliver the best football experience to fans across the country.
