During a recent appearance on JJ Reddick’s podcast, new Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell — whom the team acquired from the Utah Jazz during the offseason — admitted that he was angry with former teammate Rudy Gobert back when he contracted COVID in March 2020.

Gobert, of course, was one of the first high-profile American athletes to contract the virus and was arguably the leading catalyst in the league being shut down on March 11, 2020, before resuming in “The Bubble” later that summer.

“I was angry, I’m not gonna lie to you,” Mitchell said. “I would say out of all the media reports that have ever come out about me, Rudy, and the team, that was probably the most accurate. I was mad. I thought, at the time — cause we didn’t know — I thought because Rudy was around doing whatever, that that was the reason I got it. Now, we don’t know, I could’ve given it to him without contact, whatever it was. We don’t know, now looking back at it.” [via The Old Man and the Three]

Whether it was due to the falling out between Mitchell and Gobert or just an acceptance that the roster was never going to win an NBA title, the Jazz blew the team up this offseason as they not only traded Mitchell to the Cavs but they shipped Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

During his first game with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the 26-year-old Mithcell scored 31 points, dished out nine assists, and had two rebounds. As for Gobert’s first game with the Timberwolves, the 30-year-old three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year had 23 points, 16 rebounds, and two assists.
