High School Baseball Team Pulls Off Improbable Double Play After Ball Rockets 60 Feet Off Centerfielder’s Head

The good news for D’Iberville (Miss.) centerfielder Travis Bender is that he’s going viral. The bad news is that it’s for allowing a line drive to nail him in the gourd.

But before you feel too sorry for him and his resulting welt, know that his misplay allowed teammate Jay Deshoung to make a, ahem, heady play and snag it out of midair.

The runner on second base was understandably doubled off. Like, if his coach yelled at him for bad baserunning, he should be fired. One does not expect to burned by a 8-7-6 twin killing.

Deshong was nice enough to compliment his outfield mate for assisting on the play and give him props on a shapely skull.

“(My teammates) acted like it was a spectacular play on my part, but it bounced off of Travis’ head,” Deshong said. “If his head was shaped any other way, who knows where the ball would have gone.”

Of course, if a player had a square head, he’d likely have larger issues but a promising career in the circus.
