The Duke basketball team continued its dominance in ACC play with a 35-point win over rival Florida State on Saturday. Late in the blowout, former walk-on Spencer Hubbard got some notable minutes.
The 5-foot-8 grad student shined in his brief stint on the floor. He racked up five points in three minutes on 2-3 shooting.
Hubbard has been with the team since 2020-21 campaign. Across 24 appearances, he’s totaled 18 career points. His previous career-high had been three points, which he’d recorded multiple times throughout his time in Durham. He bested it on Saturday.
Hubbard entered the contest with 3:29 left in the game. He then went on a scoring spree much to delight of the Cameron Crazies.
Fans called for his entry into the game. They got their wish and more after he was subbed in.
Hubbard kicked off his scoring by picking the pocket of an FSU opponent and making a tough lay up under the basket. He then drained a deep three-pointer to set a new personal scoring mark.

“It was good, it felt great out there,” he said after the performance. “Whole team stepped up.”
Spencer Hubbard’s role has grown immensely with Duke basketball over the last five seasons. After beginning his career on the practice squad, he was elevated to the official roster as a walk-on ahead of his sophomore year.
In 2023, he was awarded a scholarship. He’s now wrapping up his final season as a Blue Devil.

Spencer Hubbard made a major impact in Duke’s most recent basketball win. He hopes to do the same in his final game in Cameron Indoor Stadium this week.
After wrapping up the regular season, the Blue Devils will turn their attention to the ACC Tournament before starting their national title pursuit. Hubbard wants to end his career with a championship. We’ll see if it happens this March.
