A Duke football fan put bystanders in danger by sending an absolute missile into the College GameDay crowd on a shanked field goal. The yanked kick landed a direct shot on someone filming the guest segment.

The failed attempt quickly went viral as it could’ve banked the fan $1 million, leading to a hilarious reaction from college football followers.

College GameDay set up shop in Durham this weekend to take in a matchup between Duke and Notre Dame. The crew organized a guest segment Saturday morning giving one fan a chance to put his kicking prowess on full display. Unfortunately, his abilities were lacking.

As bystanders gathered around to watch the kick, the fan sent a rocket into the Duke crowd. The ball actually knocked the phone from someone filming’s hand.

Fans were quick to comment on the shank.

“Need to put up foul ball screens.”

“I do believe he shanked that one.”

“That had some zip on it!”

We’ll assume the laces were in and give the Duke fan a break.

Turns out, that second attempt was worth $1 million as McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit began offering their own cash for a make. This, of course, after seeing the fan’s unsuccessful first attempt.

Notre Dame and Duke will square off tonight at 7:30 PM ET. Hopefully, Blue Devil and Fighting Irish kickers will have a bit more success on the field.

Duke is looking to pull off a second major upset after beating Clemson in Week 1 while Notre Dame hopes to stay in the College Football Playoff race.
